Susan Athey is the new winner of the John Bates Clark Medal. I had her on my potential list of winners, of course, but I really put Ed Glaeser highest on that list since he was at the age limit of the candidates for the medal (40), while Susan Athey could have also been nominated in 2 years from now, in principle.

Despre (si pentru…) cercetatorii romani din Romania
Nu este prima oara cand primesc asemenea email-uri (si intuitia imi spune ca nu va fi nici ultima…). Mai precis, am primit pana acum 8 (opt) astfel de mesaje (le pastrez pe toate), in ultimii 3 ani, pe acelasi topic, de la cadre didactice universitare din Romania.

The two debaters are established stars of the Economics academe, despite being relatively young still, Daron Acemoglu and respectively, Edward Glaeser (by the way, I bet on Ed Glaeser winning this edition’s (2007) John Bates Clark Medal– it is also his last chance, given the rules regarding the age of the recipient; Daron Acemoglu was the latest winner, two years ago).

Quite an interesting article in last week’s print edition of The Economist about divorce as a business. Essence: it really matters where the divorce is pronounced (tip: don’t choose England if you’re the rich(er) spouse…).

Evenimentul a fost mai mult decat reusit pentru o prima editie si constituie un precedent care nu trebuie ignorat. Deci chapeau organizatorilor, participantilor, audientei! O scurta trecere in revista, in fuga (si las programul sa vorbeasca de la sine, mai jos): ideea colocviului s-a materializat (intr-un final!)
